Brigands Ball

Code of Conduct

Zorn Vongal strives to maintain a welcoming and friendly atmosphere. This includes positive attitudes, welcoming of new members, and courteous treatment of all fellow Attendees and guests. All attendees will refrain from actions that a reasonable person would feel would limit the safe enjoyment of events by another person or societal standards. This includes, but is not limited to, all forms of real-world harassment and any forms of in-character harassment that have real-world consequences.

This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees of Brigands Ball, including: participants/attendees, guests, volunteers, Event Staff, and Zorn Vongal Leadership.

Zorn Vongal allows in-character slights, comments, and actions, provided they are made with clear difference between character / in-game interaction as opposed to it being used as an avenue for abuse. We maintain zero tolerance for sexual, verbal, and physical harassment in any form. Attendees should address it immediately with the other involved party, if they feel able to do so first. If they do not feel comfortable doing so, any member of leadership can and will act immediately once notified. For clarity, harassment includes but is not limited to:

  • offensive verbal comments concerning race; color; sex; national origin; religion; social origin; disability; relationship status; gender identity; physical appearance or body size

  • deliberate intimidation

  • following

  • stalking

  • physical assault/battery

  • inappropriate physical contact

  • unwelcome physical attention

  • unwelcome verbal/physical/visual conduct of a sexual nature

  • sustained camp/event disruption

Attendees asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

Consent is essential.  Informed, enthusiastic consent is required for any activity.  When intoxicated, an individual cannot legally consent, nor can someone consent if they are unconscious. You can withdraw consent at any moment you feel uncomfortable. Just because you consent one time does not mean you consent to any future act.

Reporting Harassment

Anyone can report harassment. If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact an Event Volunteer immediately so that the matter can be handled in an expeditious manner.

Sex/Violent Offenders

No person who is currently or has ever been convicted, registered, or listed a sex offender or violent offender in any federal, state, or local court, registry, or other legal government record shall knowingly attend, sign a waiver to become a member of, or participate in any way with Zorn Vongal. If it is determined that an individual has attended, signed a waiver, or otherwise participated in the Zorn Vongal or Zorn Vongal-sponsored events (including Brigands Ball), that individual will have their waiver voided and shall be directed to leave and not to return to Zorn Vongal or any Zorn Vongal-ran events regardless of location.

Zorn Vongal, its BoD, and its Event Staff reserve the right to research any and all of its members, participants, or attendees using any local, state, or federal resources if it is requested by any member of Zorn Vongal.

Violent/Abusive Behavior

Violent and/or abusive behavior, either in physical or verbal manifestations, will not be tolerated at any Zorn Vongal-sponsored activities. Examples of such acts can be defined as, but are not limited to: purposefully striking another individual in any other manner than what is deemed reasonable and acceptable within game mechanics; initiating a real, non-game physical altercation; maliciously yelling or belittling, or berating another member, participant, or attendee.

Such behavior is unauthorized and may result in disciplinary action against the member, participant, or attendee.

At the discretion of Zorn Vongal, its BoD, or Event Staff, if any member, participant, or attendee found in violation of this may be asked to leave the area immediately. If the individual refuses to do so, a BoD or Event Staff member will contact the local police and have the individual removed.

The waivering of or allowing attendance of any person who has exhibited such behavior outside of Zorn Vongal events or practices, either physically or verbally, is solely at the discretion of Zorn Vongal BoD.

Reporting Safety Concerns or Medical Emergencies

If you are having or witness a safety concern or medical emergency, seek out Event Volunteers immediately. Do not leave someone with an emergency alone. Instead instruct someone close by to track down Event Volunteers.

Staff Procedure for Handling Issues

Zorn Vongal, its BoD, and The Event Staff are dedicated to creating a fair and expedient means of dealing with any and all instances that are brought to our attention.  All attendees will be given an opportunity to give their version of events before any action is taken by staff.

After all the information regarding an incident is collected, staff will then decide on disciplinary action if such action is deemed necessary.  Staff will decide on the appropriate course to take depending on the situation.

Disciplinary action may include, depending on the severity of the incident:

  • Mediation between involved parties

  • Moving individual or groups to a different campsite

  • Removal from Brigands Ball

  • Barred from attending future Zorn Vongal events

If an incident that is reported to Staff involves violation of any local, state, or federal laws, Staff will report the incident to the police.

We are all here to leave the real world at home and have an amazing weekend! We are together for one purpose: to enjoy our shared community. With each and every one of us keeping this goal in mind, we are sure to have a wonderful, memorable event.
